As many of you, I appreciate pireps from those of you with knowledge of shops you use (positive or negative) and like to pass on my experience to the deliberation over others also. After a so-so experience throughout a recent avionics install, I discovered myself looking for an alternate avenue to the setting up a new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The cost of one am high that we actually busted out laughing on the telephone like I were with a comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused when i. I was telling the storyline of my local quote to a friend on the airport and that he recommended that we call John Stark at Stark Avionics for the quote. In doing my homework just before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps on the shop. In this, I ran across a totally terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you would like you just read it). This pirep caused me serious worry about if they should call Stark to get a quote.
I posted an overall query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He i spoke in reference to his knowledge about Stark and that i made a decision to give John an appointment in line with the two recommendations I received from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns amongst the negative pirep on MS and the fact that I used to be gun shy based on the previous experience. As they always say, there's 2 sides to each and every story and John took his time to explain his side in my opinion like me certain he can be prepared to employ anybody else who wishes to call him in that way. Our conversation shifted through the pirep to pricing. John i discussed different equipment options, what would best suit my needs/wants as well as the flat fee installed price for every option. We ultimately thought we would install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was in advance that the number may be slightly higher in the event the tray was riveted in (as much Mooneys are). I went along to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were attached with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in an exceedingly timely manner and confirmed the one-time fee price for your equipment and install on paper and that we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane ended up being to be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said he would have all the feaures ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in case there have been some snags on the way.
